Weathering

Weathering is the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on Earths surface.

Biological weathering is weathering caused by plants and animals. Plants and animals release acid forming chemicals that cause weathering and also contribute to the breaking down of rocks and landforms.

Martial law under Ferdinand Marcos

At 7:17 pm on September 23, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos announced that he had placed the entirety of the Philippines under martial law. This marked the beginning of a 14-year period of one-man rule which would effectively last until Marcos was exiled from the country on February 24, 1986.

Marcos’ 14 years as dictator is historically remembered for its record of human rights abuses, particularly targeting political opponents, student activists, journalists, religious workers, farmers, and others who fought against the Marcos dictatorship.

Based on the documentation of Amnesty International, Task Force Detainees of the Philippines, and similar human rights monitoring entities, historians believe that the Marcos dictatorship was marked by 3,257 known extrajudicial killings, 35,000 documented tortures, 77 forced disappearances, and 70,000 incarcerations.

Moral Values I Learned From “Sinigang” by Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran

Moral Values are the worthy principles that one follows to distinguish the right from the wrong. These virtues are considered worthy in building up the character of an individual. Moral values define the what is humankind. Moral values empower us as a human. During our childhood times we are taught about the good habits, values and manners by the elders at home and school.

The story “Sinigang” by Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran wich tells how Liza (the protagonists) handled the situation of how she met Sylvia, the mistress of her father at the funeral of Lem, her half-brother. Sylvia asked Liza for forgiveness and told Liza that everyone makes mistakes. Later at the burial, Liza’s father said he’s sorry.

There are many reasons why married people commit extramarital affairs.  Such affairs happen often because of resentment towards the current partner. They commit extramarital affair because they are looking for someone who can give their needs and satisfy their desires. Extramarital affair have existed as long as the marriage institution has been around. These affairs can broke home affect the mental health of the betrayed partner and children feel and experience turmoil, fear, uncertainty, and anger.

The story tells us great moral values about family and forgiveness. The lesson I get from the story is, we all make mistakes and stupid things. Making mistakes is an inevitable part of the human experience. We all make them because nobody’s perfect. Also, we learn to forgive others and ask for forgiveness for mistakes.

Forgiveness helps us move forward with our life. It begins our healing process. It removes the anger and malice from our heart. Forgiveness can heal us and allow us to move on in life with meaning and purpose

Earth and Life Science Module 4: Lesson 2

Collect at least five rock samples in your place and take a photo of the samples. Describe the characteristics of each rock depending on their appearance, texture, color, and layers (or bands). Then classify them as to igneous sedimentary, or metamorphic.

Type of Rock

Sedimentary Rock

(Sandstone)

Description

Exhibits a clastic texture and contains mostly sand grains

Importance

Sandstones are economically important as major reservoirs for both petroleum and water, as building materials, and as valuable sources of metallic ores. Most significantly, they are the single most useful sedimentary rock type for deciphering Earth history.
